Hello, we meet again! So, today I will give you a DIY to customize your wood clip the easiest way ever!! You can get these wood clips from local craft or scrapbook stores. Or you can find it also at polaroid accessories stores. Here's the detail of the project,
You'll need:
- Wood clips
- Acrylic paint tubes
- Medium size painting brush (mine's from Lyra size 2)
- Plain masking tape or regular scotch tape will do
- Painting palette
- Scissors
- Patience
Obviously, in this DIY you're going to need to be patient in mixing the colors until you got the swatch that you wanted. Below is the example of color mixing that you can use as a guide. In this tutorial, I use five kinds of colors and use a lot of white and yellow to balance the pastel. Use white when you want to saturate the color and use yellow if you want to add little vibrancy to the color. The colors that I use for these are Titanium white, Light green, Blue lake, Lemon yellow, Crimson, and Flesh tint. Below are the color guides for your pastel swatch:
This mixing guide is only as a basic mix for your pastel palette, it depends on you how you want your pastel to look like. Remember that the finished/dry colors are lighter than the colors when they are still wet.
Now, after you understand your color palette, shall we begin?
Now, after you understand your color palette, shall we begin?
First, cover your wood clip with scotch tape or masking tape forming the pattern that you wanted. Cover the areas that will not be painted. Cover on both sides of the wood clip. Play along with the masking tape and pattern. Make sure that you have cover your wood clip tightly, don't let the paint sip through the covered edge. After you covered all your wood clips, start mixing your paints one by one. Start with one color at once. In my case, I started with this mint color. I mix some flesh tint, light green, blue lake, and white to create this swatch. Use just enough paint amount with each color. Estimate how much you'll need to paint your wood clip. In my experience, I didn't need too many paints.
Third step, paint your clips! Start painting on one side of the clips and wait for a while until it dries then paint the other side. Overlap the paint and masking tape to create a smooth and clean finish of the pattern. Be careful not to overpaint or rip-off the masking tape. Double coat your clips after the first layer dry.
Let the clips dry for 15 minutes, and wait for the magic to work. While waiting for the first batch to dry, you can start with your second color mix. Repeat the same steps as the mint clips. You can experiments with ombre looks or even polkadots pattern.
Rip away those tape from your clips slowly. Make sure that the paints are completely dry to avoid crusty edges and chipped paints (unless that's the aesthetic that you're looking for, then it's fine :)).
That's it girls, easy peasy right?! I hope you enjoy this tutorial, leave a comment bellow if you have some questions or something to tell me. Also, feel free to share your creation on instagram and mention me @adindapb with hashtag #makekindiy I would love to hear it from you girls. So, have fun!!
